SUMMARY:LAILEC Conference
DESCRIPTION:Life-cycle regulation of Data and AI\, Tackling dynamicity and responsibility in complex ecosystems\nIn this year’s edition of the LAILEC Conference\, co-located with the EUH4D Data Forum and the SAS Project Event\, we focus on Data and AI\, together critical enablers for our society to solve complex problems and for our European data economy to thrive. Both data and AI have specific lifecycles\, where dynamicity and evolving features challenge legal and ethical frameworks. \nThe conference aims to discuss the objectives of the European Data Strategy and AI Strategy\, and will explore further the regulatory and governance dimensions of a.o. the concepts of data spaces and trustworthy AI. \nIn the Data Track we offer dedicated panels on the guiding principles and building blocks for the digital economy and zoom in on the importance of data control in different scenarios\, the need for trusted data value chains with suitable allocation of responsibilities and the impact of the fairness principle in data access\, sharing and allocation of data value. \nIn connection\, in the AI Track\, our speakers will engage on the concept of trustworthiness of AI\, its relationship with fundamental rights and dynamic safety and security risks and will discuss the impact of liability issues\, that although challenged by the self-learning capacities of AI and the complex ecosystems\, have an important capacity to significantly increase the levels of trust in AI. \nThe LAILEC conference will source the views of our expert speakers on towards the future avenues for the regulation of Data and AI and their specific lifecycles\, building on the European Commission’s preference\, as expressed in the Data Strategy\, for an “agile approach to governance” that favors “experimentation […]\, iteration\, and differentiation” and the risk-based approach to the regulation of innovation\, already visible in the GDPR and the proposed AI Act. LAILEC will also create room for exchange on the pending legislative initiatives\, such as the AI Act proposal and the expected Data Act proposal. \nLAILEC aims to engage on these topics with a broad community of stakeholders (researchers of different disciplines\, industry\, designers of data spaces\, providers of building blocks -technical and non-technical-\, policymakers\, regulators\, civil society\,..). The objectives of fair\, compliant\, trustworthy data use and AI (and related technology) applications can only be achieved by interdisciplinary efforts and the involvement of a broad range of stakeholders. Join the debate in Leuven on the 29th and 30th of March: \n\nLAILEC Conference day on 29th of March\nUnique opportunity to join the 2 co-located events:\n\nEUH4D Data Forum on 30th of March in the morning\nSAS Project Event on 30th of March in the afternoon

SUMMARY:SemAI 2022: First Workshop on Semantic AI
DESCRIPTION:September 13-15\, 2022\, Vienna\, Austria. Co-located with SEMANTiCS Conference 2022\n\n\n\n\nAI approaches based on machine learning have become increasingly popular across all sectors. However\, experience shows that AI initiatives often fail due to the lack of appropriate data or low data quality. Furthermore\, state-of-the-art AI models are widely opaque and suffer from a lack of transparency and explainability. Semantic AI approaches combine methodology from statistical AI and symbolic AI based on semantic technologies such as knowledge graphs as well as natural language processing\, while incorporating mechanisms for explainable AI. Semantic AI requires technical and organizational measures\, which get implemented along the whole data lifecycle. While the individual aspects of semantic AI are being studied in their respective research communities a dedicated community focusing on their combination is yet to be established. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Dates\n\nSubmission Deadline: July 4\, 2022\nNotification of Acceptance: July 30\, 2022\nCamera-ready versions of accepted contributions: August 15\, 2022\nWorkshop date: Tuesday\, September 13\, 2022\n\nTopics of Interest\n\n\nTopics relevant to this workshop include – but are not limited to – the following aspects of semantic AI: \n\nClassification of types of emerging semantic AI approaches\, e.g. those listed below\nNovel design patterns for semantic AI systems\nSystem development life-cycle stages when creating semantic AI systems\nNeuro-symbolic AI\, i.e.\, methods combining statistical AI based on machine learning and symbolic AI\, based on semantic technologies\nMachine teaching and other use of knowledge graphs in supervised machine learning to improve model quality and robustness\nSemi-supervised learninng\, i.e.\, combination of supervised and unsupervise machine learning\, e.g.\, in natural language processing\nDistant supervision\, i.e.\, use of semantic rules and other heuristics for data labelling\nFew- and zero-shot learning\, i.e.\, adapting to unseen classes given only a few or no examples at all\nSemantics-based approaches to explainable AI\, human in the loop in AI to improve trustworthiness\nKnowledge graphs and other semantic technologies for automated data quality management\nReports on benefits/limitations of combining machine learning and semantic technologies\, possibly from the perspective of concrete application domains and tasks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSubmission Guidelines\nWe welcome the following types of contributions: \n\nResearch papers (max. 8 pages)\nBest practices and lessons learned (max. 4 pages)\n\nAll submissions must be written in English and adhere to the CEUR-ART style. \nPlease use the following Overleaf template for LaTeX: https://www.overleaf.com/read/mwrbbrhrpwzv. \nMore Information

SUMMARY:ACM Data Economy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Data-driven decision making powered by Machine Learning (ML) algorithms is changing how the society and the economy work and is having a profound positive impact on our daily life. With the exception of very large companies that have both the data and the skills to develop powerful ML-driven services\, the large majority of provably possible ML services\, from e-health\, to transportation and predictive maintenance\, to name just a few\, still remain at the idea or prototype level for the simple reason that data\, the skills to manipulate them\, and the business models to bring them to market\, seldom co-exist under the same roof. \nData has to somehow meet with the ML and business skills that can unleash its full power for the society and economy. This has given rise to a highly dynamic sector around the Data Economy\, involving Data Providers/Controllers\, data Intermediaries\, often-times in the form of Data Marketplaces or Personal Information Management Systems for end-users to control and even monetise their personal data. Despite its huge potential and observed initial growth\, the Data Economy is still at its nascent phase and\, therefore\, faces a yet uncertain future and a series of existential challenges. \nSuch challenges include a broad range of technical matters across multiple disciplines of Computer Science including networks and distributed systems\, security and privacy\, machine learning and human computer interaction. The mission of the ACM DE workshop will be to bring together all the CS skills required for helping the Data Economy. \nThe First ACM Data Economy Workshop will be co-located with the 2022 International Conference on emerging Networking EXperiments and Technologies (CoNEXT 2022). The workshop and the conference will be held in the splendid setting of Rome\, at the Sapienza University of Rome. \nMore Information
