SUMMARY:The Culture of Trustworthy AI. Public debate\, education\, practical learning
DESCRIPTION:In the last few years\, the European Union has made important steps towards a responsible and sustainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation. In 2019\, the High-Level Expert Group delivered the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI and\, even more recently\, the European Commission put forward a proposal for a regulation to address different AI risk levels. However\, these initiatives do not\, alone\, ensure Trustworthy AI. Besides rules and principles\, “Trustworthy AI requires us to build and maintain an ethical culture and mindset through public debate\, education and practical learning.” (HLEG\, 2019). \nThe development of a Trustworthy AI culture poses several challenges to the whole AI ecosystem. The first issue regards how to create meaningful discussions involving different experts but also citizens and people with limited knowledge about AI and its wider implications (public debate). A second problem connects to the equipment needed to help future generations cope with the social and economic changes generated by AI and data-intensive applications (education). Finally\, a third important issue relates to the capacity of AI actors to become familiar with principles\, rules and the plethora of methodologies supporting ethical\, legal and robust AI (practical learning). \nThis workshop will try to explore how we can get closer to a Trustworthy AI culture sharing investigations and good practices moving along the trajectories suggested by Trustworthy AI guidelines: public debate\, education and practical learning. The event is part of the AI4EU project and will give the opportunity to share the results achieved by the AI4EU working groups on Ethical\, Legal\, Social\, Economic and Cultural issues of AI (ELSEC AI). Launched at the end of 2020\, working groups are semi-organised groups bringing together people from different backgrounds and sectors to collaborate on ELSEC AI with a genuine multidisciplinary spirit. \nThe workshop will host a mix of invited and contributed presentations\, as well as panel discussions\, and is open to scholars and practitioners working on Trustworthy and Responsible AI. The event will take place in Venice (Italy) and streamed online to allow remote participation. Registration is free of charge. More details about the workshop location and the program will be announced soon. If you would like to receive further information about the event\, please email  osai@unive.it \nRegistration: Send an email with your name\, surname and affiliation to  osai@unive.it \n© AI4EU

SUMMARY:IoT Week 2021
DESCRIPTION:Next-Generation IoT for a sustainable future\nThe rising awareness of climate change has caused the popularization of sustainability and the realization that we need to do things not only differently\, but better. As focus shifts to finding solutions to climate issues\, technological advancements and innovation present a promising way forward. The Internet of Things\, for example\, which Boston Consulting Group estimates will boom into an $267 billion dollar industry by 2021\, promises to facilitate great leaps in our efforts to transform our places and spaces\, from homes and offices to entire cities\, into sustainable environments. If IoT technologies build on not only established technology\, but also new capabilities in the backend\, such as artificial intelligence\, deep semantic interoperability and novel contractual arrangements like Blockchains\, they will undoubtedly bring fundamental change to all sectors of activity\, improving the way we live and work. \nIn other words\, IoT is likely to be an essential element of the Next Generation Internet\, setting the groundwork for systems and devices of the future. \nEach year\, numerous thought leaders from the worlds of research\, industry\, business\, tech and science shed light on the future of technology and its impact on business and life. \nMore information\, program\, speaker & registration \n

SUMMARY:Austrian Data Day 2021
DESCRIPTION:We need to talk more about data-driven technologies and the use of data.\nTherefore\, the Austrian Data Day will take place for the first time this year. It will be organized by the Data Intelligence Offensive as part of Imagine 2021 on June 17\, to focus on societal challenges of our time in the field of digital technologies. \nData is the key resource for business success. The volume of generated data is growing year by year\, but is often not used for relevant decisions. The strong distribution and fragmentation of data\, a lack of resources or simply a great respect for this important topic are just some of the reasons why data is not yet given the importance it deserves and also needs. \nThe Austrian Data Day – accompanying Imagine 2021 – aims to provide information as well as to show current developments and possibilities of cooperation. In a mix of workshops\, inputs and working groups\, challenges and possible solutions will be discussed. \nWhat to expect\nWorkshops will be held on topics such as “Data Changes Education or Education Changes Data”\, “Impact Innovation on Data”\, “Data Sharing is Caring” and many more. \nViennese start-ups from the data economy sector will present themselves – initiated by the Vienna Business Agency – as part of the Austrian Data Day and act as testimonials for Vienna as a location for innovation. \nThe event will take place hybrid\, i.e. all workshops\, presentations\, etc. will be broadcasted online. \nPresentation language: German \nMore information\n\nRegister here\nProgram and additional information

SUMMARY:IDS Live Session - Data Spaces Dialogue: Design Principles for European Data Spaces
DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Thorsten Huelsmann\, ISDA\, and Dr. Oscar Lazaro\, INNOVALIA \nThe European Data Strategy mentions nine key domains in which data spaces should be created. It describes the availability of large pools of data\, the infrastructure to use and exchange data and appropriate governance mechanisms as key. This framework and the concept of data spaces is based on the groundwork done by the IDSA and its 120+ members from industry and research since its establishment in 2016. \nIDSA aims at open\, federated data ecosystems and marketplaces ensuring data sovereignty for the creator of the data. The sequel of IDSA LiveSessions called Data Spaces Dialogue should make clear that IDSA is the starting point on data spaces and has achieved a lot of relevant results to build future data ecosystems and the European data spaces proposed by the European Commission. \nIn the first sequel Dr. Reinhold Achatz\, ThyssenKrupp\, and Lars Nagel\, IDSA\, talked about data sovereignty and about the different achievements of IDS within the last years. A special emphasis was laid on explaining the concept of data sovereignty and its importance for businesses and future data ecosystems. n March 25\, the discussion will be enriched by two remarkable perspectives from Spain.
